The phrase, “Never Out of the Fight” is one of our very favourite expressions because of its sheer boldness and fiercely empowering attitude. It’s borrowed from the U.S. Navy SEAL ethos, and basically means to never give up, or never quit.
The following is an excerpt of the SEAL ethos, which gives some context to the expression:
“I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity. My Nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time. I will draw on every remaining ounce of strength to protect my teammates and to accomplish our mission. I am never out of the fight.”
The phrase was also used in the final scene of the 2013 movie Lone Survivor, which is a biographical account of a 2005 Navy SEAL mission in Afghanistan from which only one team member emerged alive:
“. . . never forget that no matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets or how far you fall – you are never out of the fight.” – Marcus Luttrell.
In military speech, to be “out of the fight” means to no longer be able to continue fighting, for whatever reason. When someone says that they or someone else is “never out of the fight”, therefore, it means that they will keep fighting no matter what – that they can’t be stopped.
Translated to everyday life, Never Out of the Fight is essentially a declaration that you won’t ever let a challenge defeat you or scare you off. It’s a powerful way of expressing the mindset that whatever hardship or challenge you happen to be facing, no matter how difficult and seemingly insurmountable it may be, you will never stop fighting until the very end.
Accompanying Design Elements
The phrase on this bracelet is accompanied by images of two apex predators – a golden eagle and a pair of tiger’s eyes. Apex predators are those that have no natural predators of their own, and are therefore only attacked at one’s own folly.
The golden eagle is highly revered and respected, particularly within native American culture. It represents, among other qualities, strength, courage, power and freedom. As a spirit animal, it encourages one to be victorious in their quest, proud and strong. The golden eagle also forms part of the U.S. Navy SEAL insignia, from whom the phrase Never Out of the Fight originates.
The tiger has long been considered a symbol of strength, cunning, majesty, confidence, independence and immortality. The tiger spirit animal inspires one to become the supreme master of their domain.
When someone is said to have the eye of the tiger, it means they have the single-minded focus and determination needed to succeed, even when faced with intense challenge or hardship, so that no obstacle can stop them from achieving their goal.
